My final product will be an in-depth analysis of the complicated relationship between select social movements and social media- and in doing so develop a concrete understanding of the evolvement of social movements through these platforms.

I will create an engaging e-book that allows for others to be more informed on these issues.

Project Synopsis:

Social media is fully ingrained into our global culture. We cannot separate it from our lives entirely; it is in every aspect. What used to be an unknown and new tool is now benefited by governments, corporations and the average consumer.

As social media has evolved into a revenue-based platform driven by algorithms, so have social movements had to grow and change in their relationship between using social media as a tool to organize and being taken advantage of by the social media corporations.

The problem? There is no longer a clear boundary between these social movements and social media. Because of this, social movements are being tainted and growing off of misinformation, post engagement and the ever-changing algorithm. And as social media companies continue to make content moderation policy more complex, we are seeing an increasing amount of problems arise in the relationship between the movements and the platforms.
